I recently had the pleasure to shoot the latest commercial photography campaign for The Irish Times. The concept was based on the line ‘Because you get IT’, you know more about sports, politics, housing, cooking, fashion etc because you get it.

When creative agency Owens DDB reached out to me with the brief, I was immediately intrigued. The angle being that this campaign was to project a more inclusive and community based light onto the Irish Times, with a bit of a shake up too! I was immediately on board.

With the help of Alex Fraser we cast an incredible diverse and interesting group of people, who we hoped would reflect a nice selection of Irish Times readers.

On the day, everyone worked wonderfully. We had a extremely talented team in studio to make sure everything ran smoothly and the clients vision came together.

Today has got us dreaming about the year we spent working on this delicious coffee table book, with Ross Lewis and all the team, for Chapter One Restaurant; capturing some of the top dishes across all seasons.

It was a lengthy and intricate process, working with a huge amount of large image files. Our Drobo storage system was an invaluable part of the production process, with its high volume storage capacity and ease of access.

The course will look at how, when and why to use the various manual settings on your DSLR – ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed – but we don’t believe in all talk and no action, so we’ll swiftly be rolling up the sleeves and getting hands on cameras to practice what we’ve discussed, with our professional models in studio to help us out.

We’ll also go over the basics of how to give your image a once over in Photoshop.

The course day aims to give you the tools you need for getting more from your camera, whether it’s capturing great moments with family and friends, taking landscape shots while away on holidays or just learning to shoot your daily surroundings in a new way.
